How Nuna Works

Three ways Nuna works

Nuna operates in three distinct ways; which one applies determines who is responsible for your care.

• When Nuna Health is your provider. Nuna Health is a clinical organization whose care is furnished by licensed clinicians and a HIPAA Covered Entity. When you sign our Consent to Treatment and are enrolled as a Nuna Health patient, we provide your care directly. Our Medical Director and licensed clinical team direct that care, and carry clinical responsibility for it. We access your health information directly, as your provider. The CMS ACCESS Model is an example of a program through which we deliver your care.
• When Nuna supports your existing care team. Through our partner programs, Nuna, Inc. works on behalf of a hospital, practice, or other healthcare organization. Your provider stays fully responsible for your care, and Nuna, Inc. acts as their business associate, accessing your information as an authorized extension of their team, not as your provider.
• When you use the app on your own. Some people use the Nuna app for general wellness tracking without enrolling as a Nuna Health patient or joining a partner program. In that case, Nuna, Inc. provides the app, no clinician is providing care through it, and your use is governed by our Terms of Service and Privacy Policy. 

Nuna Health’s participation in TEFCA supports the care it furnishes as a Covered Entity, including under the CMS ACCESS Model. Nuna Health requests information through TEFCA only for individuals it treats, under the Treatment exchange purpose. Nuna, Inc. does not participate in TEFCA on its own behalf. 

Clinical structure

Nuna Health delivers care through a technology platform provided by Nuna, Inc.  This platform treats chronic conditions through disease management methods promoting lifestyle improvement. It also collects out-of-office measurements that inform the care of those chronic conditions when the patient returns to their care teams. Nuna Health’s clinical staff –its Medical Director and Nurses–design the protocols for care delivered by that platform, review and reconcile patient profiles within the platform, monitor the safety of care delivered in the platform, and interact with a patient’s existing care teams as needed. 

Payment

Nuna Health is enrolled in Medicare and submits claims for care furnished under the CMS ACCESS Model. Nuna Health also furnishes care to patients outside that program at no cost to them, and does not currently bill for that care.

Nuna Health’s status as a HIPAA Covered Entity applies to all the care it furnishes, whether or not a claim is submitted.

Health Information Exchange

Nuna Health participates in health information exchange to assemble a complete clinical picture for each patient and to share reports on the progress of a patient’s care with their care teams. 

Nuna Health contributes clinical information back to the networks it participates in, including assessments and plans of treatment, patient goals, patient demographics, provenance, and vital signs.

Corporate structure

Nuna, Inc. provides the technology platform and administrative services to Nuna Health and to partner organizations. Nuna, Inc. is not a health care provider and does not furnish clinical care Clinical care is furnished by Nuna Health, LLC and Nuna Health of CA, PC, which operate together as an Organized Health Care Arrangement.
